Commercial Radio Exams

                    MROP, GROL, GMDSS, RADAR and
                   Radio Telegraph Operator EXAMS

	    January 18, February 15, March 22, April 19, May 24,
	    June 21, July 19, August 23, September 20, October 18,
	    November 22, December 20, 2023

     The MIT Radio Exam Team will conduct exams for the 
General Radiotelephone Operators License, the Marine Radio Operators Permit, 
                      the Radar Endorsement, 
    the Global Maritime Distress and Safety Systems Licenses  
            and the Radiotelegraph Operator License 
  (if you need to take the telegraphy elements, by advance arrangement only)

         on the penultimate Wednesday evening of each month.

The Cambridge MA exams will be held at MIT, usually in room 1-150, at 7:30PM.

There is a $25 per license element examination fee, with a $50 minimum 
per examinee.   

Bring:  The exam fee in cash.

        Two forms of Picture ID - both the orginal and a photocopy of each.
           At least one must show eligibility for employment in the US 
           (e.g. US Passport, Birth certificate, Green Card)

        The ** original ** and a copy of any commercial license or 
             proof of passing certificate for which you want to claim credit

        Your FCC Registration Number (FRN) - if you do not already have one,

        A blue or black ink pen

The Radiotelegraph Operator License may be of particular interest 
to Extra Class amateur operators who have previously passed the 20WPM 
exam, as they will receive full credit for the code tests required.  
Bring the Official Copy of your amateur license to claim this credit.

An excellent study guide for the MROP and GROL, The GROL + Radar Study Guide  
by Gordon West, is available from many on line sources or the W5YI Group.  
For all the other licenses, the question pools are probably the best available 
study guides.  Printed copies are available from W5YI at 1 800 669 9594  
or may be downloaded from the FCC at

The General Radiotelephone Operators License is required to service 
transmitters in the aviation, maritime and international radio services.  
A Marine Radio Operators Permit is required to operate radiotelephone 
stations aboard large ships and certain aviation and coast stations.  
The GMDSS licenses are required to operate and service satellite and 
emergency transmitters on large ships.

The MIT Radio Exam Team operates under the auspices of 
the National Radio Examiners COLEM, part of the W5YI group.

         We offer Amateur Radio Exams at the same time.
