How to Create a Basic Query in BrioQuery

  1. Open the BrioQuery application.
  2. From the Data Model pull-down menu select Table Catalog. Enter your username and password.
  3. Decide what kind of data you would like to report on. The tables are named appropriately: for example, if you would like information about a CIP code) you would select the CIP table.
  4. Click on the table and drag it to the body of the screen on the query tab. The table and its contents (data items) now exist in the body of the query tab.
  5. Select the data items from the table that you would like to retrieve from the data warehouse. Drag the items (one at a time) to the REQUEST line.
  6. If you would like to search for a particular set of data you need to create a limit.
    • Select the data items from the table that you would like to limit by. Drag the item to the LIMIT line.
    • You will be prompted to enter a value for your selection. Enter it in the box next to the green check mark. After you have entered the value click on the green check mark and then on the OK button.
    • Oracle is case sensitive make sure you enter the data in the appropriate case. If you are unsure of the case click on the SHOW VALUES button on the Limit box. This will show you all of the possible values. At this point you may select the appropriate value and click on the OK button.
  7. If you would like to sort by a particular data item click on the item in the REQUEST line and drag it to the SORT line. The default is ascending (A-Z).
  8. You have now constructed a simple query. To process it click on the PROCESS button. When the data will be returned to the result section tab.
  9. You can now view your data by clicking on the RESULT section tab (located at the bottom of the BrioQuery screen).
  10. Other Options are:
    • Export the results: from the RESULT section tab go to the File pull-down menu and select Export >> Section. Choose the folder that you wish to export the data to and the file type (Excel, Lotus, etc...).
    • Create a Pivot, Chart, or Detail Report with your results.
    • Create more advanced queries.
