NSF RDEXP FIELD

This is a dimension table for the stars of NSF R&D Current Fund Expenditures and NSF R&D Equipment Expenditures. It contains all the fields of science and engineering as well as non-science and engineering as defined in the survey. Examples are: chemical engineering, civil engineering, chemistry, physics, mathematical sciences, computer science, social sciences and life sciences. For non-science and engineering fields, examples are: education, law, humanities, visual & performing arts, business & management, social work, and communications, journalism, & library science. The field "NSF_MAJOR_CATEGORY" may be used to distinguish the "Science and Engineering" fields from the "Non-Science and Engineering fields.

NSF_FIELD_NAME NSF fields for science and engineering. For example, the NSF Field Category of "Physical Sciences" consists of these fields: Astronomy, Chemistry, Physics and other. For non-science and engineering category, this field contains the value "Other Non-S&E Fields". VARCHAR2 60
NSF_FIELD_NUMBER Field/Line Number used in the NSF Survey of R&D expenditures VARCHAR2 4
NSF_MAJOR_CATEGORY Science and Engineering (Item 2) or Non-Science and Engineering (Item 2A) VARCHAR2 40
NSF_RDEXP_FIELD_KEY Use this field to join the NSF RDEXP FIELD table to other NSF tables with the same name key for discipline/field information. This field is NOT used for reporting VARCHAR2 4
