Major Milestones

12/2/03 Linux Product Front Doors are now an active part of the IS documentation production process. Stand Alone Linux task item CLOSED.
11/6/03 New Linux web documentation went live. More clearly shows the broader Linux support available from IS, and delineates Athena as separate, and a source of broader application support.
9/9/03 Announced kickoff MIT Stand-Alone Linux AFS Software Release effort.
8/4/03 Went live with new Athena Linux desktop configurations.
Included new installer, Athena Patch Release, and hardware config.
8/4/03 Went live with new version of Mozilla (1.4) and Evolution (1.4).
7/24/03 Provided feedback to HP on limitations of their Pre-installed Evo N800w Laptop.
7/17/03 Received IBM Athena Desktop System; Team certified it was viable.
7/15/03 Went live with Athena 9.2 release.
6/30/03 Official de-support date for Athena SGI platform.
6/8-10/03 Presented at IBM ThinkTank conference in RI.
6/5-6/03 Presented via telephone to SunShot workshop on update.
6/1/03 Took on new project, AFS Everywhere.
5/21/03 Had my performance review.
5/1/03 Dropped issue of IBM Wireless Card gets confused in Windows after being run in Linux. (New product line has new cards. Driver continues to evolve.)
4/15/03 Went live with budget that did NOT involve a layoff.
4/8/03 Contacted HP and IBM asking them what they wanted to sell Athena this year.
3/15/03 Completed and handed in performance reviews.
2/4/03 Athena update of Mozilla to version 1.2.1 shipped to the field. On time and to spec!
1/16/03 IBM Video issue is closed. All we need do is wait for XFree86 v4.3, and our kludge to hand-tool refresh rates can be removed. We need not get IBM to do anything.

12/19/03 Meeting to discuss Red Hat Network, and issues in determining the future of Red Hat at MIT.
12/17/03 HP conference call to learn about Linux and Laptops.
12/17/03 DSpace email catch-up. Reviewed DSpace UI Feature Definition.
12/16/03 Circulated closure on Athena locker software issue: Improve locker scripts, and be explicit with customers about what will and will not work, and whether the why is technical or licensing.
12/15/03 Took delivery of Linux stand-alone OpenAFS "Getting Started at MIT" doc draft. Provided feedback.
12/15/03 Poked at Sun about CNBoot. 12/3/03 Handed draft of Athena Linux Differences doc to Athena Release Team for review.
12/2/03 Checked in on stand alone Linux Product Front Doors. They're there! This issue is now CLOSED because the PFD process is now under way and stably producing new PFD's for Linux.
12/1/03 Hosted visitors from Berlin wanting to learn about how MIT has set up its IT organization and infrastructure.
12/1/03 Submitted copy for IS Insider on Linux support.

11/21/03 Added RedHat Network Software Release project.
11/21/03 Responded to query about Athena service levels during holiday Institute shut-down.

11/6/03 Found a bug that can hang Evolution. Got it to the point where ghudson could reproduce it.
11/5/03 Received drafts of stand-alone Linux OpenAFS installer doc, and AFS at MIT doc. Reviewed, and gave green light for commencement of testing.

10/29/03 Sent first draft of questions and requirements to Red Hat contact.
10/27/03 Worked through reviews of new Linux documentation: top level page, Linux Athena page, downloads page, product front doors.
10/27/03 Collaborated on draft of article on improved Linux support for inclusion in the IS Newsletter.
10/26/03 Heard back from Dell. Alas, no significant change in the issue of a specific support person to help with integration issues.

10/24/03 Checked in with Dell on where we are on Linux support gap.

10/15/03 First meeting of Stand-Alone OpenAFS Software Release Team. Established timeline, decided on documents, and crafted initial structure for the documentation.
10/7/03 Certified that update to notebooks.html is the first step of more accurate support statement on Linux laptop support. TODO: Update the lore pages, and link it in on notebooks.html.
10/3/03 Did thumbnail review of SISuite and OSCAR for longpd. Pointed out my concerns, and things that they don't do that Athena does.
10/2/03 Brought Athena Disconnected Operation Project Notebook web pages up to date. ghudson has taken ownership of moving this effort to completion.
9/26/03 Reviewed IS Customer Survey. They mostly get it right, in my opinion.
9/25/03 Got status update from Red Hat. Scheduled meeting for Oct 7.
9/25/03 Drafted Stand-Alone AFS release timeline. TODO: Add dates and time estimates.
9/24/03 Understood prerequisites to convening Stand-Alone AFS release team.
9/19/03 Changed milestone tracking and reporting. Kicked off new personal status update process.
9/18/03 Pondered issue of appropriate restrictions for Sun JRE in Athena distribution.
9/18/03 Dealt with team hardware renewals: #'s 17 and 18 were non-issues. 3 Systems need final resolution.
9/18/03 Helped sanity check approach to possible ssh vulnerability.
9/11/03 Helped field a problem with Solaris install that corrupted people's dot files.
9/11/03 New version of Athena TCO Doc. Asked tomt about adding a WinAthena thread.
9/11/03 Had brief conversation with Dell. They expressed interest in sending me a demo system competitive with the currently announced IBM Linux Athena configuration.
9/11/03 Dealt with 3 more renewals (total of 13 out of 17). 1 already done, 1 shutting down and not being replaced, on staying as is another year. Asked for clarification on one, and inquired about a possible 18th renewal.
9/10/03 Received IBM Linux system from Athena renewal for Test cluster. Returned loaner to IBM.
9/10/03 Received a draft of linux software web page. Implemented changes suggested by SWRT in hopes of getting doc out the door sooner.
9/5/03 Productive conversation with Sun on ideas for deliverables in a collaboration.
9/5/03 Provided basic facts and asked for discussion of collaboration model with Red Hat.
9/5/03 Put "experiment with Red Hat Enterprise Workstatin 3beta" onto team's TODO list.
9/3/03 Asked HP for clarification on our next steps in working together on Linux.
8/28/03 Made contact with new and interesting people at Red Hat. Notified MIT stakeholders of same.
8/27/03 Dealt with 10 of 17 renewals. 4 not mine, 4 shutting down and not getting replaced, 1 staying as is, 1 previously done.
