3/29/04 My PowerBook came back and for the first time since it (and
it's two replacements) came back from Apple, everything seems to
work!
3/5/04 Stand Alone OpenAFS Software Release project officially ended
with a confirmation that all is well and some delicious carrot cake
from Rosie's.
1/22/04 Deployed stand alone Linux OpenAFS for MIT on time and to spec!
1/20/04 Major reorganization and 20% layoff performed. Budget work is
now off my list of responsibilities. Now the work of shifting to the

9/9/04 Attended technical presentation on Solaris 10. It contains a
couple features of real value to Data Center deployments, most notably
"Zones" which insulate application server processes from one
another.
9/7/04 Requested GovConnection part number for HP desktop Athena
system.
9/7/04 Did minor update of Laptop Athena web page to reflect its
new nature as a historical document.
9/3/04 Mice for S50 are here, but S50's were supposed to arrive
yesterday and haven't.
9/2/04 Reviewed my personal planning, goals, and milestones as
published. Revised docs.
9/1/04 Got IBM x345 quote to possibly put into server_configs page.
Opened issue of revising the formatting of that page. TODO: resolve
issue.

8/31/04 Raised issue with Red Hat of un-announced outages of

8/31/04 Tested and blessed new HP Athena Desktop config. It's a
drop-in replacement for the IBM S50! TODO: Publish the config as
blessed for customers.

8/29/04 More S50 renewal drama: The mice are wrong. TODO" resolve issue.

9/18/04 Reviewed new HP Athena Desktop config proposal.
8/16/04 Got people to cover the S50 renewal situation in my

8/13/04 Drafted stock answer on why Red Hat Enterprise was chosen
instead of Fedora.
8/13/04 Fielded request from customer for xwrits application
support. TODO: After vacation take up the issue with Kathy Cahill.
8/13/04 Met with IBM Sales rep and some new folk to try and improve
the S50 situation, and to create a Linux relationship that is more
mutually beneficial to MIT and IBM.
8/12/04 Looked at GForge as a way to track a portfolio of projects.
8/10/04 Began sorting out troubled IBM S50 renewal order. IBM changed
the LCD display which may or may not be a problem, but has not gotten
us a unit to test with.
8/10/04 Went live with TechTime client for RHE.
8/10/04 Pushed on HP for long overdue progress on Linux Desktop
config, and on a decent Linux relationship.

7/30/04 (out sick) After a few minor revisions made during the week,
approved final draft of IS&T Newsletter article on Linux. Robyn Fizz
did very well with copyfitting, editorial cleanup, and in general,
keeping me moving forward on the article.
7/30/04 (out sick) Sent message to HP sales rep that I wanted to have
sent in the beginning of the week to restart Athena certification of
HP hardware.
7/28/04 (out sick) Delegated final push of go-live of OpenAFS to
jdreed.
7/27/04 (out sick) Shepherded research into why we were surprised by
customers having 4GB Suns. (Our detection method was flawed.) longpd
and mjv will decide what further action to take.
7/26/04 Owls meeting. Reviewed deployments. Agreed to cutting back on
Online registration of Athena systems only to Solaris systems technically
requiring Hesiod info.
7/26/04 Caught up with milestones log. Checked in on status of LPRng,

alone Red Hat Enterprise.
