The Poem That Got AwayI hate movies that are about making a movie,Plays about putting on a show, And I really hate Papers about not being able to write a paper. So I guess at some level I hate this poem. And yet, it needs to be said: Sometimes you have an idea -- The beginnings of a poem. You decide to let the idea Cook in your head a little bit more Before you write anything down. A couple weeks later, You know you were thinking about a poem, But you just can't remember What it was about. Maybe it's lost for all time. Maybe it will be recovered. But for now, It's the poem that got away. |
