Abstract
The event will kick off with a morning Community Forum on the future of open access publishing. MIT Librarian Chris Bourg will present an update on relevant progress from the MIT OA Task Force, and then tune in to the webcast to hear the Libraria collective introduce a new model for universal open access to research and scholarship that has research libraries and research funders working together (L+F) to support the conversion of subscription journals to open access.
An invitational workshop will follow in which publishers, journal editors, academic society leadership, librarians, and research funders will, with the input of strategic advisors, work on the terms of the model and a basis for a pilot. The pilot will begin with interested parties in anthropology, but with an eye to how this L+F model for open access might work for other social sciences, humanities, and STEM fields.
