So long.. Seniors

Ithaca College (1) and SUNY-Brockport (2) visit DuPont Gymnasium as MIT (7) hosts it's final meet of the season and says goodbye to their seniors: Whitney Watson and Merritt Tam.  Merritt (8) highlights a field of 5 of the top 8 all-arounders in the nation who will be competing at this meet including defending National Champion Carrie Santore (1) and Sarah Bulka (3) of Brockport, and freshman sensation Aubree Lewis (4) and Kelly Stevison (5) of Ithaca College.  (current national ranking in parenthesis)

Jennifer Miller-McEachern

After a planned transition year acting as an assistant coach during the 2003-2004 season, Jen has taken over the role of Head Coach of MIT's Women's Gymnastics team and becomes only the second coach after the men's and women's programs were split in 1994.  Jen brings a wealth of expertise and knowledge to be able to keep the momentum going and improve the program.  Some background and bio exist in MIT's new Varsity Sports Website - www.mitathletics.com

Eduardo Ovalle remains involved with the team as a volunteer assistant.  While keeping a hand in MIT's program, Eduardo hopes to delve into the bigger project of protecting and promoting collegiate gymnastics as a whole - particularly the NCGA.

MIT's class of 2008

Two members of the class of 2008 have joined the team this fall. Sarah Trowbridge is a level 9 competitor from Boulder, CO and Sophia Harrison is a level 10 competitor from Laguna Hills, CA and Giants Gymnastics.  Unfortunately, Sophia suffered a serious elbow injury prior to arriving to MIT and will not be able to compete this year.  Below is a recent picture after the 'makeover' from our resident stylist....

The 2003-2004 Season Wrap-Up

By most accounts, the 2003-04 Season can be viewed as the best in the program's history.  MIT showed it's true colors in hosting an exceptional event in which the NCGA National Championships were held in conjunction with the USAG Region VI Level 9&10 Championships in early April.  The success of the event was only thwarted by the success of the team as they finished with a best-ever 6th place result in the team competition and a new school record 186.30.  Throughout the season team records were broken in final score (186.30), vault (46.675), beam (47.35) and floor (48.475).  Individually, Merritt Tam '05 broke the longest standing record on the uneven bars with a 9.75 score.  The previous record was established in February of 1999 by Sonja Ellefson '01 with a 9.625.  No less than 37 personal bests were set by the members of the 2003-04 team including 8 out of the top 10 floor scores in Institute history.  Five out of the top 10 vault scores in Institute history were also set in 2004, and three different members of the 2004 squad added themselves to the top 10 beam scores in Institute history.  Another accomplishment of the 2004 team was the first ever win over Division II Southern Connecticut State University (184.40 - 184.15) which continues to show the steady improvement of the program.  No other season will compare to the 2003-04 season simply because of the magnitude of the events hosted on our campus and the phenomenal job from the athletes, coaches, administration and all of the personnel that had a hand in putting together (and pulling off) such a successful event.  Looking forward to 2005...
