Women Chemists Committee (WCC)

The American Chemical Society has a committee called the Women Chemists Committee (WCC). Their mission is to be leaders in attracting, developing and promoting women in the chemical sciences. There are four goals designed to fulfill the mission statement:

  1. Attract women to a profession in the chemical sciences.
  2. Take an advocacy position within the ACS on issues of importance to women in the chemical sciences.
  3. Provide leadership for career development opportunities for women in the chemical sciences.
  4. Promote and recognize the professional accomplishments of women in the chemical sciences.

To accomplish these goals, WCC conducts interviews, hosts networking events and career development workshops at ACS conferences, runs a mentoring website, and much more. To get more information about WCC or to search for local events in the area (ESPECIALLY AT THIS YEARS ACS MEETING IN BOSTON IN AUGUST 2007) go to http://membership.acs.org/W/WCC/

MIT Women's Initiative

Women's Initiative is a student group at MIT dedicated to encouraging more women to pursue degrees and careers in Engineering. During the month of January, enthusiastic women from the School of Engineering at MIT are selected to speak with high school girls nationwide about the excitement of careers in engineering. The presentations include activities to engage students in thinking about engineering concepts, demonstrations of projects on which the presenters have worked, and information about the different engineering fields and the life of an engineering student. For more information or to get involved visit their website at http://scripts.mit.edu/~wi/home/index.php.
