What is Women in Chemistry?

Women in Chemistry (WIC) is a group of students dedicated to making the Chemistry Graduate Program at MIT more fun and fulfulling for female graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. We work to provide events that encourage interaction and socialization within the department as well as events that address issues specific to women in science. We are funded by the generosity of successful women who have graduated from the MIT Chemistry department, such as Dr. Paula Olsiewski '79, as well as many others. Our Mission Statement is outlined below.

WIC Mission Statement

WIC is an organization that enriches the experiences of women in the Chemistry Department at MIT by:

* facilitating connections with the greater community

* hosting social events

* creating a forum for discussion about gender issue in science

Some of the ways in which we achieve these goals include: arranging industrial site visits, hosting academic speakers, sponsoring sites for Graduate Student Volunteer Day, holding monthly coffee breaks and, hosting dinners with Alumni, and coordinating a mentoring program for incoming graduate students.
