Summer Housing at WILG (2007)

[ HOUSE TOUR ]
or return to the
[ ABOUT WILG ] page.
WILG is located at 355 Massachusetts Avenue in Cambridge, near Central Square. The house is a 3-5 minute walk from the Central Square T station, and the Mass Ave bus stops directly in front of the house. There is also a large grocery store conveniently located just across the street.
You do not have to be an MIT student to live at WILG during the summer. However, summer housing is only available during the dates listed below. During the school semesters, WILG is strictly an MIT independent living group. If you are an MIT student and wish to live with us during the semester, please visit the rush page.
For summer housing, we accept applications from undergraduate and graduate students, both male and female. We offer housing in singles, walk-through singles, and doubles. All rooms have hardwood floors and include furniture and a bed per person. We can also provice ethernet and wireless connections.
The house has two kitchens: a full commercial kitchen on the first floor and a smaller kitchen on the fourth floor. Food is not provided, but both kitchens have appliances, dishes, and silverware.
The first floor lounge has a TV, VCR, and DVD player available for public use. In addition, WILG has laundry facilities (50 cents to wash and drying for free), a bike storage room, and a second lounge with a TV.
Every floor has a common area, a refrigerator, and two or three bathrooms that are each shared by 3-5 people.
Sorry, we cannot allow pets. Also, given that this building is in the city, we do not have any parking spaces (Last year boarders were able to apply for MIT parking permits through the Office of Transportation and Parking).
Dates
We will begin responding to summer housing requests for 2007 in January. You can also visit the lgc summer housing page for more options.
Rates
$160/week for a single (one person, one room)
$140/week for a walk-though single (one person, one room)*
$120/week per person for a double (two people, one room)
* A walk-through single is a room that is accessed by
walking through someone else's room, or that someone must walk
through to get to her room.
Requirements
- Each person living at WILG will do a house or kitchen job each week. A fine of $20.00 will be charged per missed job.
- Boarders are required to sign a residency agreement and pay the first and last weeks' rent on the day they move in. This is in addition to the security deposit that is required to reserve a room. Rent is due on a weekly basis. A week is defined as Sunday through Saturday, and boarders staying for any part of the week will be charged the full weeks' rent.
- A security deposit of $300.00 is required to reserve a room. This deposit will be refunded at the end of the summer if there are no job fines, your room is in good condition, and no rent is due. If you reserve a room and then do not move in, your deposit will not be returned unless you give us two weeks notice.
If you are interested in summer housing at WILG and would like more information or a house tour, please email the Summer Contact Officer at wilg-housing[at]mit.edu. We require that each applicant take a house tour if they are in the Boston area. If that is not feasible, we require a phone interview. We will only consider male boarders who apply individually and are able to take a house tour.
