SolidWorks and CosmosWorks Setup

 

SolidWorks and the CosmosWorks plug-ins both require some initial setup to work correctly. Below are configurations you will have to set the first time you use the machine. These settings will stay with your account after you perform these steps and log out successfully.


Initial SolidWorks Toolbar and Default Save Location Setup

1. Start SolidWorks (Start/All Programs/SolidWorks Education Edition/SolidWorks Education Edition)

2. You will get the following message:

"Toolbar information is inconsistent, default toolbar setting will be used"

3. Click OK

4. Select "New Document" and you will get the following message:

"Templates cannot be created in the present location......"

5. Click OK and on the following folder window select a folder that you have write access to such as your "My Documents" folder - which travels with you in your athena account (~/WinData/My Documents).

6. You will notice a variety of the toolbars appear as tiny boxes but have no tools within them.

7. Quit the program.

8. Goto Start/Run and type Z:\athena.mit.edu\software\win_cosmoworks\solidworks_barfix.bat

9. The next time you start Solidworks you will have the default bars.

10. To customize the bars or add others select "Tools"/"Customize" - the "Toolbars" tab will show which toolbars are activated and the "Commands" tab will allow you to drag specific tools you need and drop them onto any toolbar.

Resetting the SolidWorks Toolbar

Alternatively, if you have already started SolidWorks, you can reset the toolbar by following steps 7 through 10 as outlined above. Please be aware that any manual changes you may have made to the toolbar will be lost as a result of this action.

CosmosWorks Setup and Configuration

1. Start SolidWorks

2. Under "Tools" "Add-Ins" Place a check in CosmosMotion and CosmosWorks - click "OK"

3. The programs will all go through a brief setup period and will be added to the SolidWorks menu bar above.

Important CosmosWorks Setup: You MUST make the following changes within CosmosWorks or else it will CRASH:

4. Under "CosmosWorks" "Preferences"

Select the "Results" Tab and change both the "Work directory" and the "Report directory" to directories that you have write permission to (such as H:\WinData\My Documents).
