Cook named North Atlantic Division MVP

All Conference teams were announced May 6, and four engineers made the list. The greatest honor went to fifth year grad student and seasoned veteran Kristen Cook who was named the Division Most Valuable Player. Cook had an impressive season at 2M defense, holding opponent's 2M almost scoreless throughout the season, but could also boast one of the highest scoring records on the team. Cook will be graduating in the fall with a PhD in Geology and then will be moving to Taiwan to pursue her career.

First year graduate student Blair Brettmann also received first team honor alongside cook. Sophomore Analiese DiConti and Freshman Kellie Young received second team honors.

Engineers Capture 2nd in North Atlantic Division Tourney

As always, the North Atlantic Division provided some difficult competition and a wild Championship Tournament. The Engineers had three games in the first day of the tournament and were victorious in each.  They came out strong with easy victories over Bates College(17-4) and Wellesley College (11-2) to win their pool. The semi-final was a nail-biter versus Boston University.  BU took an early 5-1 lead, but the Engineers rallied their way into overtime and came out on top with an 11-9 win.  It was a true battle of want and terrific display of just how well this team plays together.

Sunday was the faceoff with rival Boston College in the Championship.  Both teams came out strong, but only have only have one substitute finally caught up with MIT.  Boston College advanced to Collegiate Water Polo Club Nationals with a 8-4 win.

Adam Foley to Take over Women's Water Polo

The Engineers lost their head coach Felix Mercado, to whom they attribute much of our past success in the North Atlantic League and Nationals, to Brown University.  But he left the team in the very capable hands of Adam Foley who is a 2004 graduate of University of Redlands.  Coach Foley was named the Collegiate Water Polo Associations Player of the Year for Division III in his final season at Redlands.  Upon graduation with a B.A. in history, he helped coach his alma mater while pursuing his M.A. in the School of Education.  He now comes to us at MIT as a well seasoned student-athlete and coach.  He led the men’s team to a fifth place finish at Northerns and now hopes to lead the women's team to their fourth straight North Atlantic Division Championship and Club Nationals.
