James Cain is a medievalist whose main areas of research include the politics of Anglo-Norman courtly literature of the 12th century; genres of narrative from epic and romance to history and hagiography; as well as issues involving gender and sexuality. The subjects he teaches frequently cross the disciplines of Ancient and Medieval Studies, Women's Studies, and Comparative Media Studies. He received his masters and doctoral degrees from Columbia and his bachelor's from Princeton.
