English Class Registration
Started in 1963 to address a vital need for international women arriving on campus, the League's conversational English classes form a cornerstone of the organization. To date, more than 3,200 women from 71 countries have taken part, taught by 75 volunteers who have donated their time and energy since the project's inception.
With child care provided in a room nearby, these classes offer women of all cultures and countries the chance to learn or improve English skills, to make new friends, and to gain confidence and comfort with their new life in the United States. Three levels of classes are offered during both the fall and spring for a minimal cost of $80 per term, with books provided. Babysitting is available during class hours on a first-come, first-served basis at a cost of $150 per child per term.
Classes meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:15 to 11 am and are followed on Thursdays with a social hour to encourage conversational practice among students.
See the League's calendar for up-to-date information. Registration is usually in September and February.
