For half a century the popular English Conversation Classes have been a signature service of the Women's League. They were created to assist international women - often students' wives - arriving on campus from all over the world. These classes offer the opportunity to learn or improve English skills, make new friends, learn about American customs and holidays, and gain confidence and comfort with life in the United States.
Classes meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:15 to 11 am during both the fall and spring terms. Beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels are offered. Cost is $80 per term, with books provided. Child-care is available, on a first-come, first-served basis, for $150 per child per term. Registration is usually in September and February.
Since the program began, more than 3,600 women from 76 countries have taken part, taught by 77 dedicated and enthusiastic League volunteers.
