The MIT Women’s League sponsors a wide variety of activities each year. Among the League’s annual programs are the Catherine N. Stratton Lectures: Critical Issues, a fall panel session that explores topics affecting our world today, and Aging Successfully, a spring panel session that examines a health topic of special concern as we age, providing the most recent and relevant medical information.

The fall and spring seasons also feature the Breakfast Series. These two informal, early-morning breakfast lectures explore the role of women in the academy and feature incomparable menus, guest speakers from the community of faculty and staff at the Institute, and the opportunity for informal conversation with colleagues. While created for women who work at MIT (taking place from 8 am to 9 am, before the workday begins), all women affiliated with MIT are welcome to attend this popular series.

Other events include a lecture tour through a current exhibit at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston and the on-campus Focus on the Arts program featuring artists (painters, sculptors, musicians, photographers) within the MIT community.

The League’s annual social calendar includes several traditional events.

  • In October, the League welcomes newcomers at the Fall Reception for New Women at MIT and introduces them to League activities and to representatives in helpful offices at the Institute.

  • In November, the League hosts a special event for International Wives new to the MIT community.

  • At the Annual Meeting in May, members attend a luncheon business meeting with a guest speaker.

In an effort to foster community and build bridges here at MIT, the Women’s League hosts once-a-month, late afternoon get-togethers called Connections. Held on the second Thursday of the month, from 4 pm to 6 pm in the Emma Rogers Room, 10-340, these gatherings provide an informal way to continue the League’s welcome throughout the year to MIT newcomers and stay in touch with League friends. All are welcome to come by for light refreshments, conversation and camaraderie.

Additional programs and events are added as the year progresses. See the League’s online Calendar of Events for up-to-date information.
