Abstract

REVEALING THE WATERS
Reclaiming and reusing the natural resources of the buried Mill Creek. Separating Mill Creek from the sewer system, and creating a parkway/flood plain system along Mill Creek for storm water runoff, to alleviate subsidence, and stop the current destruction of property, and loss of life. Denoting, and delineating the headwaters of Mill Creek in Lower Merion: to act as storm water control, a holding pond to be created. Relocating the residences of the displaced homeowners due to the newly created parkway. This could be accomplished by creating a high density living community within the neighborhood, mid and high rise residential units to be created, along with more and better amenities/retail/school/playground/etc. Delineating where Mill Creek meets the Schuylkill and creating a holding lake for flood water runoff, as well as a natural preserve. A water park of fountains to be created, as a celebration of where the waters meet. Creating a wiser use of land, and a wiser use of our natural resources, a more logical location of " No Build" floodplain/parkways, and water retention as well as a concentrated residential high density zone. The newly created parkway would allow and create recreational areas such as walking, biking, playgrounds, community buildings, and pools, while addressing the issue of a floodplain. Native species to be used through parkway.
