Philadelphia is located on a geological fall line between the inner coastal plain of the Atlantic ocean and the Piedmont plateau of the Applachian mountains. The city marks the navigable boundry of the Delaware River and is also intersected by the Schuylkill. The climate is temperate and is characterised by the flora and fauna of the eastern deciduous forest.
