ABANDONED

Neighborhoods in West Philadelphia, especially in the Mill Creek neighborhood, contain a lot of vacant or abandoned properties. Some of these properties are empty lots, and some have structures still standing. |

Social agents
of change have already acted upon these properties. Unemployment, drugs, crime,
emigration, neighborhood tensions, and real estate devaluation may have caused these
buildings to be abandoned. After time, abandoned buildings become derelict. Owners are no longer present to maintain the properties and the natural elements start to disintegrate the structures. Vacant lots may have never been built upon, or maybe derelict buildings were torn down. In other places, unused parking lots have slowly turned into urban meadows. |
