The new open space provided opportunities for different kinds of settlement. This settlement took the form of subsidized housing developments.  The poverty trap created by Redlining was manifest in these new developments. Meanwhile, suburban areas of Philadelphia were filling up with financially advantaged people. The Nation's first turnpike was abandoned in favor highways which were constructed to feed these new suburbs.
