In the United States, water moves in two main directions. All rivers and streams that are west of the continental divide, drain into the Pacific Ocean. All rivers and streams that are east of the continental divide drain into the Atlantic Ocean. The continental divide is a ridge of mountain peaks, the highest points on the continent. These peaks affect how water flows across the country. |
