  • Responsible for general club operations
  • Liason to school administrators and Club Sports Council (CSC) (Larry Anderson is director of MIT club sports)
  • Attend CSC general body meetings and reactivation meeting or get someone else to attend
  • Likewise NERFU AGM
  • Reserve fields/upstairs in Johnson (talk to Sandy Lett)
  • Ensure that club is in compliance with school and USA Rugby rules
  • Fill out appropriate forms
    • CIPP forms (located here) must be filled out at the beginning of each calendar year
    • Keep a current roster with the CSC along with MIT waivers
    • Fill out CSC reactivation packet each spring
  • You are in charge of getting the team to away games on time, including renting cars and getting drivers, if necessary.You have to be the one that tells everyone they have to meet at 6:00 AM. Bring a phone list to call people who are late.
  • You are also in charge of setting up and taking down the field for home games - goalposts and pads, flags/cones, sideline ropes (obviously, this is the perfect time to practice those delegation skills)
  • Bring the balls and any other necessary equipment to each practice, or make sure that someone else does. Make sure you know where all of the equipment is at all times (balls, cones, tackling dummy, jerseys, flags, pads)

  • Responsible for club finances
  • Purchase necessary team equipment
  • Submit budget to CSC each year to request funding for operations (the more specific the better--don't be afraid to ask! But be aware of CSC funding guidelines) and complete reactivation packet with president. Some common items...
    • Officials fees (referees, EMTs, trainers...)
    • CIPP and Referee society dues
    • Equipment (balls, rucking pads, ball bag, jerseys, jersey bag, scrum pads, upright pads - this is more complicated, check CSC rules and ask questions if necessary)
    • Gas and tolls for away games, and rental cars, if necessary
    • NERFU dues
    • stipends for coaches
  • Collect member dues (usually rookies $25, returning players $30)
  • Submit receipts to SLP/CSC as soon as possible but by august 1. Spend all the money you get.
  • Ensure NERFU dues and referee society fees paid
  • Sing at drink-ups
   Match Secretary (Spring Only)
  • Contact match secretaries from other schools to schedule games (Spring season starts after Spring Break) and set game times
  • Requests for spring season referees (home games) must be submitted by March 1 (NERFU refs)
  • Coordinate field requirements for matches with President
  • Responsible for providing directions to our pitch (link on homepage) and obtaining directions to opponents' pitches

  • Post home game hosting of competitor (from dues money). Find out from match sec if other team is staying late. Possible venues include Senior Haus basement and the Bexxxment.
  • Pasta dinners nights before games.
  • End-of-season banquet/team dinner
  • Team social gatherings/singing practice every other week after practice.

   Captains
  • Help run practices, especially when the coach isn't there
  • The captains and the coach select who is playing and what position for every game.
  • Being captain-on-the-field means that you will decide things like scrum or lineout from an infraction and do the coin toss. Also, you are usually the only ones who can talk to the ref on the field (for minutes, questions, etc). Remember to call him/her "Sir"
  • If feeling extra captain-y, organize off day workouts like lifting or sprinting
  • Keep the players happy. This might include talking to everyone about how they think practices are going, or how they like their positions/do they want to change, etc.

  • Email rugbyfans at mit.edu about matches.
  • Publicize in MIT papers (sports at the-tech.mit.edu)

    • Freshman mailing (FYSM)
    • Booth at Athletic Midway during Orientation and CPW
    • Campus postering

  • Update alum page and mailing list (wrugby-alum@mit.edu)
  • Annual alumni game--contact the mens team (MITRFC), we usually have it the same day as their alum gme
