By Nisha Singh
Team Co-Captain

The women's tennis team hosted Brandeis last Thursday afternoon. Using a slightly different lineup, MIT had no problems, winning the match 6-3. There were several close matches, however.

One of them was at first doubles, where co-captain Mealani Nakamura '00/Kelly Koskelin'02 prevailed 9-7. At second doubles, Julie Koo'03/Jess Hall '02 had a big lead, only to have their opponents fight back. MIT pulled out an 8-6 win. At third doubles, Yi-Ning Cheng '02/Priscilla Cheung'02 lost 8-3.

In singles, the top three players won fairly routinely. Nakamura won 6-4, 6-1, Koskelin prevailed 6-2, 6-2, and Koo won 6-2, 6-1. At fourth singles, Hall lost 6-1, 6-3, while Singh lost 6-7, 6-4, 7-2 (a tie-breaker replaced the third set). Ayako Tanaka '00 pulled out a three-setter at sixth singles, winning 7-6,4-6, 6-0. Ann Hsing '02 lost 6-4 6-4 at seventh singles.
