The world is filled with horrors. The world is filled with hate. The world is filled with despair. But worst of all, people just put up with it.
But you know that it could be different. The world could be better if people were willing to make sacrifices. Nothing good ever comes without them. If people realized that nobody is always going to be there to save them, they would freely choose to sacrifice themselves to promote change. However, it is important that they choose this of their own free will -- it must not be decided for them.
This Place Without Recourse shows people the futility of everything, but it takes people's choice away. Even if someone chooses to make a sacrifice, they wake up again and nothing has changed.
Among the powers that be (including all the judges), there are 5 major philosophies—Authority, Degradation, Sacrifice, Sterility, and Chaos. Degredation and Authority are directly opposed, and Chaos is just doing its own thing in the corner. Then there’s you and Sterility—each opposed and opposite to the other. Degredation and Authority fight over order and freedom, beauty and love of the flawed. Chaos is useless and unfocused. However, Sterility is the worst—they want everything to be the same for all time, with no end to suffering.
Argh! The world would be so much better off if people were willing to make sacrifices. There is no problem that could not be solved if people were willing to make the appropriate sacrifices. It’s not like you are mortals with limited resources. The only thing standing in between you and change is the courage and will sufficient for self-sacrifice.
Anyway, you guys do more than just sit around feeling good about yourselves. Right now, the activities that you engage in will help shape the world to come. Many of these will influence one of the five main philosophies. Various items of power will come into existence. You can dedicate these objects to your philosophy, putting a \starcolor star on them. Similarly, encouraging people to answer their Question with \starcolor Answers will advance your faction.
Remember, the better your philosophy does, the more people will be willing to muster the courage to embrace change.
