The world is filled with horrors. The world is filled with hate. The world is filled with despair. But amidst it all, there is a balance that allows existence to continue.
But that balance is always being threatened. The horrors always threaten to wipe out humanity. They are always a hair's width away from succeeding. Worst of all, people keep trying to change things in a way that threatens the balance. If people were aware of all the horrors that were out there, they might not be so willing to rock the boat.
This Place Without Recourse shows people the suffering that is out there in the person of Ii Ma, but there is no spirit of humanity to preserve. There is stasis, but no spirit.
Among the powers that be (including all the judges), there are 5 major philosophies—Authority, Degradation, Sacrifice, Sterility, and Chaos. Degredation and Authority are directly opposed, and Chaos is just doing its own thing in the corner. Then there’s you and Sterility—each opposed and opposite to the other. Degredation and Authority fight over order and freedom, beauty and love of the flawed. Chaos is useless and unfocused. However, Sacrifice is the worst—they want everyone to destroy themselves in a futile act of change. Talk about throwing out the baby with the bathwater! Would good would change be if people destroyed themselves.
Argh! The world would be so much better off if people knew the foolishness of such acts. There is no problem that could not be solved if people were willing to maintain the balance of the status quo. It’s not like you are mortals with limited resources. The only thing standing in between you and self-preservation is the foolishness and naivite of those who seek change.
Anyway, you guys do more than just sit around feeling good about yourselves. Right now, the activities that you engage in will help shape the world to come. Many of these will influence one of the five main philosophies. Various items of power will come into existence. You can dedicate these objects to your philosophy, putting a \starcolor star on them. Similarly, encouraging people to answer their Question with \starcolor Answers will advance your faction.
Remember, the better your philosophy does, the more the balance will be preserved.
