\bigquote{If you look out at the world, there’s a lot that you
know. There’s a lot that you understand. But at the edge of your
map, there’s emptiness.
There’s questions that are hard to answer.
There’s things that are hard to explain.
There’s choices that don’t make sense and there’s a sea of chaos and
there’s emptiness.}{---``What is Hitherby Dragons?''}
== Shows ==
You put on Shows. It's what you do. And it seems that you've got
to put on a few very special shows here to keep this Place from
crumbling into the void. And even if you don't want to stay here,
it's better to have somewhere to escape from than nowhere at all.
Putting all 15 of you on stage at the same time wouldn't work very
well. \MrsSchiff{} suggests that you break into three groups of five
and have each group put on one show in each of the three rounds.
Threes are good luck, you see.
During the hour before each round, there will be a sign-up sheet. Sign
up for a slot, 1--5, in one of the three shows.\footnote{You don't //have//
to participate in each round. But if you skip out, you won't get an
Answer that round. And \MrsSchiff{} will look at you disapprovingly.}
For these Shows to reinforce this Place, however, you can't do
things all willy-nilly. Each actor needs to contribute an Element
that they have to use or introduce or represent in the Show. You
can be literal (``I'm George the Elephant, and I have opinions!'')
or metaphorical (``I think we can all see that your love of tea
kettles is the Elephant in the room.'') as long as it will be
obvious to the Judges how each element is being used. The elements
used in a Show will be announced after the Show.
== Voting ==
After the shows in each round, judges will vote on the shows, determining
which was best, second, or last. Turn in the Element you used
to the box corresponding to the ranking of your play; these tiles
represent new structure for this Place your show has created.
Then gather with the two actors from the
other shows in the same slot (1--5). A GM will give you a slate of at
least 4 Answers. The actor from the best show picks one to take, then
the next actor picks one, and finally the last actor. The remaining Answers
are discarded.
== Finding Elements ==
You never know when inspiration's going to strike. You'll just be
walking down the street, and then, Boom! Elephant! Or, you'll be
scuba diving, and an Intergalactic Insider Trading Scandal hits you
upside the head. The way you find Elements here is a little like
that.
By the stage there are five piles of elements: Ocean, Desert, Swamp,
Mountain, and Forest. Three times each hour, you can take an
Element from any of these piles. Will the Element connect to its
terrain type? Not always.
If you find yourself with an Element you don't like, like you have
the Element of Freshly-Baked Bread, but you're allergic to gluten, remember
that Elements are physical items. You can trade them with other people.
The Judges can't get them as easily as you can, so they might be interested.
They also seem to be interested in which elements are used in plays.
While you can trade Elements as much as you want,
\MrsSchiff{\name{} says persevering
through artistic adversity is good for you, so don't
overdo it unless you want to risk a stern look.}
