\PulpScientist{Your brother, always going on about science.}
\HeavenBuilder{A robot who seems to obsess with keeping this place clean,
not that it ever makes any progress. You guess you don't make its job
any easier, with your alchemical experiments.}
\EndPwoR{Some sort of \mf{prince}{princess}
who seems to like stories. \They's gotten
pretty fatalistic. Not that that's surprising.}
\Sid{Wow, one of the judges is a bona fide magical creature! That's really pretty cool,
and he seems to support magical creatureness too}
\Saruman{Your rival for capturing the blue essentials. Except he wants to make them into monsters instead of
magical gold, like nature intended}

Pregame, made his life's work to hunt something that doesn't exist, so
semi-deliberately got himself to the PwoR. Still looking for his Blue
Essentials and wants to get out and show his older brother, the
[[PulpScientist]], who has looked down on him his whole life for
following dumb weirdshit that doesn't work.
He's supposed to be brainwashed to be captain Cook. But it did not take.
* Looking for a cool thing
* Wants to escape, but only with his Blue Essentials
** To escape, he needs to swap with an Actor
* Wants to up the magic slider
* Roleplaying love plot? (Thinks no one would love him for who he is)
** Or reconcile with brother.
** Looking for a friend, who could be [[Sid]]
* Question: "Why can't you move on?"
** Answer1: "It is better to strive and fail than to simply give up."
** Answer2: "Because this is all I have left." (or something about
no one loving him)
TODO: possibly I need a better question, and social proof rather than obsession

\cenquote{Asayw blooms into being in Heaven. He is a fire of wanting the
impossible. He burns silver, incandescent, stretching higher and higher into
the empyrean; then the base of that pillar of fire, that thing that sustains
him, shatters. The flame of him snaps into a smaller form, tumbles from
Heaven, and turns blue.}{-- An Unclean Legacy}
If you think back carefully, the first thing you remember is your older
brother stealing Mr. Fluffy, your stuffed cat. He was saying something about
cats not having fedoras, but you were young and didn't really understand what
he was getting at at the time. In retrospect, the whole exchange was
uncomfortably prophetic.
But maybe that isn't really the first thing you remember. There are vague
impressions in your head of wooden ships, endless seas, and tropical islands.
Memories of another you, a past life? They dissolve like dew when you touch
them, so perhaps there's no sense in dwelling on them whether they're from a
past life or something else.
But back to your brother, [[PulpScientist]]. He was always so worried and
concerned about what was real, what was provable. And always so dismissive of
anything he didn't like. But so successful too! Always doing well in school,
earning your parents praise.
You couldn't stand that, and maybe that's why you started looking for ways
to show him up, to shatter that smug world view of his. In a book you found in
the library you found tales of the Blue Essentials, elemental beings of pure
intention. He who could capture one could refine it and discover great power.
And finding one would surely be the thing to show your brother.
Al Rashid said that from their bones could be prepared an elixir of
immortality. A supposedly lost book of Aristotle claimed that their entrails
were the most powerful mechanism of divination that could be found. But most
authorities agreed that if they were rendered down an alchemical gold could be
extracted, but not just any gold. One with a great magical potency that would
allow sorcerous feats not seen in this world for generations.
But where to start? Once you knew where to look you began finding
references to them in other books. You studied, and you followed up leads
across the world. You sailed countless leagues... no that was someone else.
Sometimes various hints correlated and you were so very sure you would find
them, but you always faced disappointment.
Your brother mocked you of course. He said that the hunt for these things was
the purest folly that could be indulged in. That the very act of attempting
this was proof of your idiocy and that eventually you would have to give up on
your quest and admit he was right.
Like that would ever happen.
It was a lonely life, hunting these things, but your life had always been lonely.
Truly, the hunt gave you pleasure and purpose and hope - but it was tiring.
When the ragged things came for you it was almost a relief. These weren't the
Blue Essentials you had been looking for, but at least they were things from
outside of all extant taxonomies, and it was an undiscovered country you
journeyed to.
Well, it was a relief at first. Every day you gathered yourself, set out, and went
in search of the blue essentials. Every day you failed to find them. Every day you
woke in the same bed and said "How beautiful", before heading out. The same bed every
day.
It wore on you, despite how wonderous the world you were seemed at first.
There is a question. "**Why can't you move on**?" The answer to it would free you to return
to the outer world, and you think you would. The obvious answer regarding your insufferable
brother and never hearing the end of it would have been answer enough once,
but somewhere along the way you've realized that you would continue this quest
even were your brother dead.
But now you've been appointed as a judge, to create a new world out of the
material the actors will create. A priceless opportunity to make a world that
has mysteries and secrets and things that have been until now outside of all
mortal ken! A world which might come to have the Blue Essentials you've always
desired, even if you have to bring them into being yourself.
Better still, though, would be to find some way of bringing them out to
show those who always doubted you. To return to the places where you were
scorned and mocked and show them, here is the proof that your quest was not in
vain!
== Goals ==
* Capture the Blue Essentials! They like mushrooms. And have
useful alchemical properties. And aren't very tall. And are blue.
* Render them down into Alchemical Gold.
* Return to the outside world with your new power.
* Show your brother that you're not a fool.
* Encourage the Place Without Recourse to be more magical. This can only
boost the powers you will surely get.
