Hi. Welcome to reuse! You have been added to reuse@mit.edu, please take a moment and read through these rules. If you wish to be added to reuse-ask, -sell, -housing or -discuss, let us know by sending mail to reuse-request@mit.edu. Thanks. INSERT NAME HERE (Administrator) ---------------------------- CURRENT RULES ------------------------------- These are the current rules of use: For any of these lists, please do not send attachments/pictures in your post. Either put it on a website and send a URL, or send it later to anyone who expresses interest. The large files cause some people problems. * reuse to post availability of FREE items which can exchange hands or be found at or near to MIT. Not for flaming! We'll personally mail people who misuse the list. This list is restricted to MIT-affiliated students, staff, faculty, alumni, etc. * reuse-ask to ask for items * reuse-sell to try to sell items * reuse-housing to post availability of apartments or houses for sale/rent in the Boston or surrounding area, or for people looking for housing. Reposts may happen at most once a week. Send mail when the spot is filled. * reuse-discuss to discuss these mailing lists and related philosophy. If you have a serious problem though, mail reuse-request. ** reuse-request for help in using these lists or to modify your subscription status. Archives of most of the lists are available through Discuss, and on the Web through the Discuss --> WWW gateway: http://diswww.mit.edu/menelaus/reuse/ http://diswww.mit.edu/barb/reuse-sell/ http://diswww.mit.edu/barb/reuse-ask/ http://diswww.mit.edu/barb/reuse-housing/ http://diswww.mit.edu/barb/reuse-discuss/ **** Please note that breaking reuse rules may result in you being **** **** removed from the reuse lists for a period of time. So save this **** **** file and refer to it when you're not sure. Thanks. **** -------------------- HOW TO ADVERTISE/CLAIM ITEMS ------------------------ Please include the following information about items: * What it is * What it's for if it's not obvious * Who to talk to (or not to talk to) about picking it up (name, email, phone, etc.) * Where it can be picked up * Approximate size/weight (will it require two people to carry, etc.) When an item has been claimed that you offered, mail reuse and let people know it's been claimed (if someone changes their mind after they see it, you can mail reuse again). If an item is available as "first come, first served, don't contact me" and you pick it up, then promptly mail the list to let people know it's gone. If it was MIT property and doesn't have a deactivation sticker on it, then please contact Michael McCarthy (mmccarth@mit.edu, 253-2779) to get the item deactivated (you can do this after you've brought it home). If you see an item with a deactivation sticker on it, this doesn't necessarily mean that the item is up for reuse! Please don't take (or post) anything unless you are certain that its owner is trying to get rid of it. Please note that this service is not linked with the MIT Campus Police or the Properties office. If you are not MIT affiliated, you may be trespassing on MIT's campus, and the Campus Police will not look kindly upon you removing property from MIT. *** Because of the increase in thefts at MIT, it is highly recommended *** *** that when picking up an item, you keep a copy of the reuse message *** *** in case you run into the Campus Police. *** ------------------------- HOW TO REMOVE YOURSELF ------------------------ If you're on athena, use listmaint or type % blanche -d $USER listname If you're not able to run listmaint or blanche, then mail reuse-request@mit.edu. Please do not mail reuse. There are more than 600 people on the list, and they will be very unhappy if they receive subscription requests. Any update to the mailing list may take up to take 24 hours to happen. ------------------------- HOW TO ADD YOURSELF ------------------------ If you're on athena, use listmaint or type % blanche -a $USER listname where listname can be reuse-ask, reuse-sell, reuse-housing, etc. Otherwise mail reuse-request@mit.edu. ------------------ TELLING YOUR FRIENDS ABOUT REUSE ----------------- You are encouraged to tell your MIT friends and MIT coworkers about reuse, but please make it clear that all subscription requests, questions, or comments must be directed to reuse-request@mit.edu, not reuse@mit.edu. Thanks.
