Limited Slip

Limited Slip

Limited Slip is your friendly, neighborhood post-punk/alternative/hard rock/funk/ska band. Limited Slip was formed in February 2007 as a power trio. In October 2007, Matt joined the band as the new front man. Since then we have played numerous shows in the Boston area (including the Middle East Downstairs), had our music featured in the MIT Dramashop production of Suburbia, had back-to-back 1st place finishes in the 1st and 2nd rounds of Emergenza Boston (we are currently in the Boston semifinals!), and recorded our first demo, "Fun Sponge EP".

Between Alex's crazy stage antics and Matt's strong commitment to crowd participation (he's known to randomly jump into and/or start the mosh pit), you never know what's going to happen at a Limited Slip show. If you like what you hear, check us out at www.limitedslipmusic.com or send us an e-mail at limitedslip@mit.edu. Limited Slip is Matt Robertson (vocals, '08), Alex Sanchez (guitar, '08), Chris Becker (drums, '08), and Jaron Colas (bass, '11).

Be sure to come out this May to see us play the Paradise Rock Club in Boston and help send us through to the Boston finals of Emergenza at the Roxy!!

Chaos Before Creation is a 7 member local band from Whitman and Hanson. It consists of 2 guitar players, keys, violin, bass, drums, and vocals. We have been together playing metal for about a year now. We won the battle of the bands at the Worcester Palladium, where we came in first out of 75 bands throughout the New England area. We then won a battle of the bands at the Paradise Rock Club, sponsored by Gorilla Productions. We have played many shows and are always looking for new ones.

Polski FIAT

Polski FIAT

Polski FIAT is a quirky, nuanced and energetic indie rock band based in Boston, MA. Your basic gritty 3-piece anti-jam band, Polski cranks out an onslaught of arrestingly distinct and surreptitiously witty songs, often changing gears 6 or 7 times in the span of a 2 minute long piece. All original, the band features a mélange of crunchy guitar progressions, dueling harmonies, lush computer sounds, and cerebral librettos to create a potent live show. The band obliquely proclaims its tunes as a novel genre called 'Science Rock.' This pioneering style meshes electronica with old fashioned rock 'n roll to provide smart, danceable music. Polski deftly blends a vintage look and sound with sophisticated and futuristic compositional elements in an attempt to be either postmodern or to poke fun at anyone silly enough to use terms like postmodern.

The Name Changers

The core members of The Name Changers are Rick Umlah on keyboards and vocals and Matt Lavigne on drums and vocals. The name "The Name Changers" refers to the band changing their name every show, putting a different twist on every one of their live acts, and constantly adding new players to their lineup! The music is a mix of rock and roll, fusion, hip-hop and pop, and every one of their live shows are different. One of their patented moves is to have everyone in the crowd change their names for the night on the sticky "Hello my name is" name tags.

Rick and Matt have been playing in the Boston music scene for the last 6 years in various bands such as The Indefinite Article, The Ride, The Animal Closet, Murder Capital of the World, and they even performed as Slick Rick's back up band when he came to Boston!! The Name Changers are known to bring on stage a full female vocal section, a horn section, strings, and killer guitar players. Their music can fluctuate from anything to original funk to avant-garde music, or hit cover songs to progressive rock and roll! This group is a versatile Boston based rock group that is going to take the city by storm and redefine the meaning of "The Duo".

The Isothermals

The Isothermals

Formed on a Wednesday night during IAP, The Isothermals make their Battle of the Bands debut after rocking a set by their heroes, Oregon-based punk trio The Thermals, at a Senior House party last month. Two weeks later, they played an impromptu and improvised set at 2 AM at the Deli Haus diner, in spite of jetlag and a missing instrument.

The Cambridge crew - including seniors Michael Fleder (drums), Dugan Hayes (vocals/guitar), Colin Hill (guitar) and Megan Tsai (bass) - will be returning to the fold soon with gigs around MIT and Boston. Look for them to be rocking the California scene next fall, or even joining up with The Thermals themselves...
