Dragons - the uses for various pieces of a dragon is astounding. Dragon blood is amazingly potent, dragon bone incredibly strong. The scales can be used to make magical armor, and horns and claws can be crafted into almost unbreakable blades. Because of this, there are very few dragons left. A dragon of a size worth hunting takes centuries to mature, but even given the immense power and intelligence of a dragon a team of dragon hunters armed with glyph magic or a hunting group of elves and orcs can be reasonably sure of killing one while taking only light casualties. Dragon breeding requires too much time and too many resources, and has not been pursued. Dragons come in a variety of chromatic and metallic colors, each with different properties and habitats.
Mill-Corpse - the Mill-Corpse is the animated body of a mill worker who has died in such a way as to leave the body reasonably intact. The Mill-Corpse continues to perform its daily work at the prayer mill, but instead of charging a token it merely consumes the soma and draws energy from all the tokens being charged around it. A Mill-Corpse desires only to continue its daily work, and will defend itself brutally if interrupted. This creature is not particularly different from the human it used to be, save that its complete lack of fear and insensitivity to pain allow it to push itself much farther than a normal man - a Mill-Corpse could be approximated to be twice as strong as it was before death. A corpse may be prevented from rising in this way by burying it with a spent magic token in its mouth, or by severing the tendons in the wrists and ankles. Animated Mill-Corpses may be destroyed by making them immobile long enough to miss their work shift.
Goblins - goblins, and their larger hobgoblin cousins, live at a primitive level, possessing only the barest of civilized skills, trading with humans to procure metal rather than making it themselves. Goblins also sometimes live as vermin in larger human cities, tolerated only so long as they do not prey on anyone important or get too numerous. Some goblins live in the wilderness areas that remain in the civilized lands, but as human settlement and agriculture has expanded their populations are squeezed into smaller and less desirable areas. Hobgoblins, being larger and more aggressive, have been basically eliminated - the only large populations remaining on the continent are the hobgoblin tribes of the steppes. While goblins are almost as intelligent as humans in general, they are considered sub-human, and in most countries it is not a crime to kill or mistreat one any more than it is to kill a dog.
Rouser - a rouser is the spirit of a dead mill worker which seeks great emotions after death. It has no body of its own, and can be seen only out of the corner of the eye or while in a drugged or drunken state. The rouser can possess anyone who is in such a state and not presently engaged in prayer mill work. Once in control, the spirit attempts to create emotional scenes, but with the limited emotional response of the mill working communities it normally manifests in it almost always ends up trying to cause fear through violence. This is not always the case - rousers that enter a more emotionally varied population may try to provoke lust, feelings of betrayal, or even rarely love itself. Rousers are incorporeal and may not be damaged except by magic directed at them when outside a host. They are also slain if their host dies, and may be deceived into possessing dolls stuffed with soma or filled with alcohol which are then burned. A mill worker given a final taste of soma under the tongue will never rise as a rouser.
Unicorns - their horns detect virgin blood by reacting with non-virgin blood violently, and are also proof against poison. Both reactions use up a bit of the horn. Those who purchase blood for magic will often have a bit of horn in order to test the quality of what they are purchasing and avoid being cheated. Unicorn horns are also quite hard, and can be used as short spears or as the point of a lance, but this is fairly rare. A pendant made of unicorn horn, worn against the skin, is very popular among upper-class maidens. It's expensive, it looks very pretty, it sets up the cleavage, and if you're not a virgin it quickly tarnishes, so wearing one proves something about your marriagability. Unicorns are raised on unicorn farms, which come in two varieties - the rare farm staffed by virgins where unicorns willingly stay, and the much more common type of ranch where adult animals are held captive using glyph-magic charms.
