"The Best Laid Plans Oft... Run! Zombies!"

The Apaches bring in Elder Tanner, who had ridden out of Tombstone looking for the posse. They fill him in, and then alternate further assault planning with a spirited moral debate on why they're attacking the railroad. No real consensus arises, but everyone agrees that it's a good thing to do. They end up going to the camp late the next day - a couple hours before the workers will return. Elder Tanner and Cady (dressed as the Mormon missionary again) say they and their friends are passing through and need a place to rest safe from the Apaches, and the regulators are again friendly enough. Once the regulators leave them to get settled, Cady and Bart head for the gatling tower nearest the suspicious rail cars. Tobey follows them as far as the cars, and Joseph, James, and Robert go to wait outside of the witch doctors' shack.

Cady climbs up into the gatling tower just as one of the men in it is finishing a dramatic story with a woman in it. Her disguise has gotten a bit mussed, so they quickly realize she's not a missionary. They're confused (and perhaps intrigued by a woman disguised as a man climbing into their tower, something Cady tries hard to make use of). One man clearly doesn't mind so much, but the other is made of sterner stuff. Cady uses her blast on him as Bart climbs the latter. A brief struggle later (with a little shooting) and they control the tower.

The shooting cues the others. Tobey wings one of the men on another gatling tower with her Sharps .50 and then goes to place the dynamite. Meanwhile, Robert, James, and Joseph burst into the house and find one guy going for his staff and the other for his top hat. They fixate on the hat guy and kill him quickly (after grabbing the hat), and then despite the best efforts of the skull on the end of the staff (which catches bullets in its teeth) they kill the other man as well after Joseph takes his staff away. The skull on the end spews a blast of beetles at the other two.

Tobey then finishes placing the dynamite as two regulators turn up and want to know what she's doing. She's shot badly - a chest wound near the heart - and limps away bleeding horribly with them in pursuit. Unfortunately for them they pause not far from the train, whereas Tobey keeps going. They must not have seen what she was doing with the dynamite.

Meanwhile in the cabin the regulators have arrived, and shoot James in the chest (though no where near as badly as Tobey). He mostly guns them down. Robert spends the entire round getting beetles off him, only to be stunned again by a near miss to the groin. Joseph fails to do anything about the staff, and it spits beetles again. The regulators fall back from the cabin, though one near the doorway is heard to give a eulogy for those in the cabin. It chills them to their bones.

Meanwhile, Bart struggles with his demon as it attempts to make him turn the Gatling gun on the helpless Tobey. Cady can see his struggle, but can't do too much about it. She tries to keep the gun pointed away from the ground. The other gatling towers shoot at them, but to little effect at this range.

BOOM!

After the explosion, Tobey and her two pursuers are thrown to the ground. Tobey is able to shoot one down as he tries to get up, and Cady blasts the other from the tower. Neither are killed immediately, but might as well be, because the blast has freed a couple hundred zombies (less casualties), some of whom fall upon the wounded men.

The man who gave the eulogy steps into the doorway at the cabin, confident in his skill. He has two guns, a gaunt face, and black clothing - much like James. Joseph shoots him once in the side and finds that he oozes black blood and isn't much wounded. So when James shoots, he blows the top of the gunslinger's head off. Joseph then runs out of the building with the evil staff to stop its beetling, and then drops it to tend to Tobey. The staff responds by spraying them both with beetles, which swarm over Tobey and into her wound. She passes out (wouldn't you?).

Joseph thrusts his hands into the mass of beetles and heals Tobey. Robert and James retreat from the shack, with more regulators hot on their heels. The zombies spread out and start to climb the tower, and the regulators decide that this is more than they're paid for and run. Everyone else runs too, except for Bart and Cady who are basically treed. Unfortunately, the zombies catch up to them and jump on Joseph, who despite his protection is brought down. The others don't know whether to run or help when the cavalry arrives.

They charge down on the camp and start shooting zombies and generally trampling about. In the confusion the others are able to free Elder Tanner and escape. James stays behind, and Cady and Bart remain treed. After the fighting stops, they try to claim to be regulators but real railroad workers identify them as having come into the camp just before the trouble started. James is also so identified, but after he is relieved of his weapons he continues to give last rites to the dead. The colonel in charge decides that he's crazy but will be allowed to finish before being imprisoned.

"If you say the dead will rise again one more time, I'll have you shot right here!" - Colonel to James.

Eventually James is thrown in with Bart and Cady to await a decision on their fate, his wound crudely bound by one of the soldiers. The others have escaped to a few miles away with the Apache, and are considering what to do for their friends.

Tom: Don't forget the beetles. Aaaaahh!

Meg: The party spent four blue chips this run. One for James to shoot off the zombie master's head, one for Elder Tanner to successfully heal Tobey, and two for the lucky coincidence that the cavalry was charging the camp at just the right moment.
