The properties and image quality due to an LTM are studied using a rigorous electromagnetic approach. The LTM is created by a succession of infinitely long cylinders organized along a parabolic curve. The scattering of each cylinder due to an incident plane wave (typically coming from a distant star) is computed by taking into account the self-interaction with all the other cylinders. The focus point shown in the figure is therefore obtained without approximation (such as ray tracing, physical optics, etc), but from the Maxwell's equations and the Foldy-Lax multiple scattering equations.
