| Truffle Making | Have you ever looked in the window at Godiva and said
"I could totally do that"? Or walked through Finale and wondered how they
got the stripes or white
chocolate so perfect on the dark chocolate shell? Or perhaps picked up
a ginger-chipotle truffle at an LCS event and wondered, "Who comes up
with these, anyway?" Now you can find out! Chocolate, cream and our favorite flavorings provided---and we promise you'll leave with something tasty. Come learn to make truffles with LCS. Classes are limited to 8 students, so please sign up in advance. Several classes will be offered in IAP. $10.00 materials fee for non-members. Contact jleung@mit.edu to reserve a seat |
| Chocolate Sculpture | It's food. It's art. It's
better than sculpting mountains
into your mashed potatoes. Come enjoy the sculpting medium of
chocolate. We will lead sculpting of pre-designed shapes, but we'll
leave plenty of time for you to design your own. Treat your artistic
side and your sweet tooth at the same time! Contact vsharris@mit.edu. |
| Battle of the Brownies | Do you have a great brownie recipe? Does it kick ass? Is it death by chocolate? Can it prevail in a steelcage deathmatch of deliciousness? Brownies are a hotly-debated item in the chocolate world. Cake-like or fudge-like? Nuts or no nuts? To settle this question, the Laboratory for Chocolate Science invites all willing participants to bring their best brownies, with at least 10-12 servings for the judges, to the Battle of the Brownies. We will have an expert group of tasters to determine the best brownie---and a prize for the winner. In addition, participants will be able to taste some of the entries once the competition is complete. No family recipe? Box mixes are okay! Please bring a list of ingredients to protect the food-sensitive, and a recipe. The winning recipe and other good recipies may be posted to the MIT Laboratory for Chocolate Science website to share with the MIT community. Register by sending mail to jleung@mit.edu. |
| Dark Chocolate Tasting |
Think all dark chocolate tastes the same? Wonder what those
percentages on fancy chocolate bars mean? Surprised that descriptions
of plain old chocolate can sound like something out of a wine
magazine? Come to our chocolate tasting and experience the range of
what dark chocolate can be. We'll have chocolate from around the world
and a diverse set of percentages and manufacturers, and you'll get to
try them
all. $5 for members, $8 for community. Contact ariels@mit.edu. |
