I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country . . . corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and th money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed.

-Abraham Lincoln, 1864

The 2000 elections have broken all records for the level of money in political campaigns. The over $2.25 billion raised by federal candidates and the national parties will have a profound, if not dominant, impact on the political process. This lecture covered how campaigns are currently finances, what money was raised in the 2000 election cycle, and proposals for reform.

This lecture was given by Dave Strozzi. Thanks to all who attended.
