The Constitution of the Scrabble Club Article I: Purpose The purpose of this club is to foster an environment for competitive Scrabble play on campus. We will provide equipment and appropriate time for players to meet. We will provide means for players to improve their game to reach whatever level is suitable for them. Article II: Membership 1. Any member of the MIT community is eligible to become a member of this organization. One is considered a member of this organization in any given academic term if she has attended at least one club activity and one meeting in the preceding or current term, and if they accept membership. 2. The membership of this organization will at all times contain at least 5 MIT students and be more than half MIT students. 3. This organization will not discriminate based on any characteristic listed in MIT's Nondiscrimination Statement. 4. If this organization charges any monetary dues, there will be exceptions made for students that cannot afford these dues. Article III: Officers 1. There will be at minimum two officers: 1. President 1. The president will represent the group to all other organizations and to MIT 2. The president will preside over any official club meetings, in addition, the president is responsible for bringing whatever equipment is necessary and officiating as a Scrabble Director if necessary. 3. The president is responsible for determining when meetings are and is responsible for publicizing them to the group and the rest of campus. 2. Treasurer 1. The treasurer is responsible for the finances of the group when and if they should exist 2. The treasurer is required to sign all checks and vouchers 2. No person can serve in more than one position at once. 3. All officers must be MIT students 4. Elections 1. Elections of the officers shall occur at the end of the spring term of each year 2. Any member is permitted to run for office 3. Quorum for elections is half of the members of the group, but is no less than 5 and need not be larger than 15 4. A majority vote will decide officers 5. If more than two people are running and no clear majority is reached, the person with the fewest votes is dropped from the ballot and a new vote is taken. 6. The office term runs from the beginning of the fall term, and will last one year. 5. Officers may be removed by a two-thirds vote from all group members. Article IV: Meetings 1. Meetings shall be held as often as possible. 2. Meetings can be held unofficially by any club member at any time. Access to equipment will be provided. 3. Any decisions will be made my majority vote of those present at any meeting. Article V: Amendments 1. Amendments shall be presented by any member of the organization. 2. Amendments shall be passed by a two-thirds vote of the members present. 3. Quorum for amending this constitution shall be half of all members of the organization. Article VI: ASA Governance Clause The Scrabble Club agrees to abide by the rules and regulations of the Association of Student Activities, and its executive board. This constitution, amendments to it, and the by-laws of this organization shall be subject to review by the ASA Executive Board to insure that they are in accordance with the aforementioned rules and regulations.
