Simulations
As part of an effort at Harvard to integrate technology and teaching, I have worked as a Presidential Instructional Technology Fellow with Harvard's Instructional Computing Group to develop software for use in undergraduate and graduate courses. For example:
- A suite of physics simulations in Flash to study oscillations
- Enhanced verision of Paul Falstad's Java physics ripple tank simulations
- Middle English (e.g. Chaucer) reading and listening guides in Flash
- Animations of global climate models in Flash
- Visualization application for earthquake fault activity
Teaching Awards
I am particularly proud of having won the following recognitions:
- Joseph R. Levenson Teaching Prize Finalist, Harvard, 2005.
(nominated by my Astronomy 145 students) - Certificate of Distinction in Teaching, Harvard, 2005
Astronomy 145: Topics in Modern Astrophysics - Certificate of Distinction in Teaching, Harvard, 2003
Astronomy 145: Topics in Modern Astrophysics - Certificate of Distinction in Teaching, Harvard, 2002

Service and Outreach
I enjoy speaking to people outside of academia about science, including physics, astrophysics, and other topics of interest. Some examples include:
- Our place in space, East Somerville Community School, Somerville, MA 2009.
- Lunar Laser Ranging, Radio Interview, WVKR, Poughkeepsie, NY, 2007.
- Astrophysical tests of gravity, Walt Whitman High School, Bethesda, MD, 2006.
- Testing Gravity with Lunar Laser Ranging, American Association of Physics Teachers, Seminar on Relativity, Seattle, WA, 2006.
- Lunar Laser Ranging and Gravity, Dudley House Crosstalk, Cambridge, MA, 2006.
- A Universe of Extremes, The Commonwealth School, Boston, MA 2003.
