I have upgraded my ThinkPad T30 (model number: 2366-44U) from 1.6 Ghz to 2.4 Ghz. Since the 2366-44U model of the ThinkPad is one of the earliest models, this upgrade proves than any T30 can accomidate a 2.4 Ghz processor.
What You Need
How to Get the CPU
You can purchase the SL6VC 2.4 Ghz CPU from Ebay for around $130-$180. Installation is a easy because the T30 has a "zero force" insertion style socket which the processor sits in, right under the keyboard. Just remove the two screws on the bottom that have the two arrows pointing at them. Then, lift out the keyboard. Then take the three screws out of the heatsink and take it out. Turn the small screw on the socket to release the processor.
Things to Keep in Mind
First of all, this processor gives off 5 Watts more heat than than the one you already have. Thus, you need to make sure your fan is in good working order and that you apply thermal compound to the new processor. Second, you have to upgrade your BIOS and Embedded Controller to the latest version to support this processor. Otherwise, your computer won't boot.
