MINUTES FROM LGC MEETING, 10/21/01 AT PIKA
NEXT MEETING IS SUNDAY, 11/18 AT WILG
(nominations for officers will be opened at that meeting and will continue by email through Dec. 2nd)
ELECTIONS MEETING IS SUNDAY, 12/2 AT STUDENT HOUSE
BE SURE THAT YOUR RUSH CHAIRS ATTEND THE MEETING WITH EMILY, WEDNESDAY AT 8PM ON CAMPUS
Roll Call: Representatives were present from ET, WILG, Student House, pika
-Position of Moderator added, only Moderator and Speaker are not allowed to be voting representatives of their houses
-We now have $2000; what should we do with it? In general, we can expect that if we spend it we will get more; we can expect at least $2000 per year. How much should we budget to Spring Rush, this being our major event of the year?
-$1000 Spring Rush budget proposed and passed unanimously
-each house present got a copy. Look it over and feel free to email comments to Robin (robint@mit.edu), but really we have no influence over this, other than to register our complaints now so as not to let them argue that we failed to complain at the appropriate time.
-These we have a say in when President's Council votes on them, but to have vote there we need to maintain consistent attendance and no LGC house has done so.
-Article 3 now says that every house must provide a Judcomm rep. or face "sanctions"
-we could only plausibly exclude ourselves from this if and when we secede from the IFC
-we briefly discussed the possibility of having one rep for all LGC, but this would be unlikely
-Do we benefit at all from Judcomm? WILG always has a rep and has often used Judcomm to charge other houses; in terms of LGC houses facing charges, TEP has some community relations charges (noise complaints) filed and other houses have been charged in previous years, but no one has ever been found guilty of anything
-consensus seems to be that each house will be able to provide a Judcomm rep if necessary, although it may be inconvenient.
-Most of the revisions will likely pass. One exception is the proposed amendment of article 9 (appeals process) to exclude appeals based on "cruel and unusual punishment".
-Article 3.B.1.a the review board will probably be expanded from 9 to 12, which may increase pressure on LGC houses to participate
-email Robin with any questions about specifics of bylaws and regulations of the various regulatory groups.
-nominations opened at next meeting, 11/18 at WILG, elections held 12/2 at Student House
-nominations are open for IFC officers; the elections are 12/5. More LGC people should run; we have a good chance of winning because we are generally seen as impartial and no one hates us
-IFC Spring rush last week of Feb into first week of Mar - rush chairs should send someone to Pres. Council to see what Joshua Yardley (yardley) has to say. We are free to choose the time for LGC rush to be different from IFC rush if we wish. Houses will be required to participate in a spring rush, but will not be forced to do both.
-email Ashley (amramsey) if you have concerns about spring/fall rushes, CPW, or the associated publications
-Rush chairs meeting with Emily (emarcus) this Wed. on campus at 8PM; be sure they go
