Example Mashup Using OpenLayers
This web page demonstrates the use of OpenLayers to combine four major mapping APIs in a unified interface.
The control at the upper right of the map allows users to change basemaps between
- Yahoo
- Microsoft Virtual Earth
- Google Maps (in this case hybrid style)
Note the toggle buttons switching between exclusive layers.
Several overlay maps are also provided.
- FutureBoston Parcels & Roads (as layers with independent visibility controls from the FutureBoston OpenGIS WMS Server)
- MassGIS Neighborhoods & Main Streets (as a grouped list of layers from MassGIS)
A different approach is to add custom WMS layers to a single vendor's API.
For example jdeck at Berkeley has mashed up WMS as a custom layer in Google's mapping API
