OrigaMIT Constitution Article I : Purpose The purpose of OrigaMIT is to promote, practice, and teach origami. Article II : Membership 1. Any member of the MIT community is eligible to become a member of OrigaMIT. 2. The membership of OrigaMIT will at all times contain at least 5 MIT students. 3. OrigaMIT will not discriminate based on any characteristic listed in MIT's Non-Discrimination Statement for membership, officer position, or in any other aspect. 4. If OrigaMIT charges any monetary dues, there will be exceptions made for students that cannot afford these dues. 5. A member is anyone who has paid dues and has attended at least one regular meeting or workshop during the previous semester. 6. An active member is any member who has attended at least 5 of the regular meetings or workshops during the previous semester. Article III : Officers 1. OrigaMIT will have eleven officers: 1. President 1. The president shall be the official representative of OrigaMIT to all other organizations and to MIT. 2. The president will preside over all meetings. 3. The president is responsible for scheduling meetings and announcing them to the members of OrigaMIT. 4. The president is responsible for overseeing all other offices and scheduling periodic officer meetings. 5. The president works closely with the treasurer, event coordinator, and publicity chair to form the budget. 6. The president is a financial signatory. 7. The president is a reservation signatory. 8. The president is an OrigaMIT email list administrator. 9. The president is a moderator for the OrigaMIT email list. 2. Treasurer 1. The treasurer shall be responsible for the finances and and budget of OrigaMIT. 2. The treasurer works closely with the president, event coordinator, and publicity chair to form the budget. 3. The treasurer is required to sign all checks/vouchers of OrigaMIT. 4. The treasurer is a financial signatory. 5. The treasurer may appoint an assistant treasurer to assist with the duties above, and for training purposes. 3. Event Coordinator 1. The event coordinator shall be responsible for the organization of all non-regular club events. 2. The event coordinator is responsible for ordering food and reserving space for club events when necessary. 3. The event coordinator works closely with the president, treasurer, and publicity chair to form the budget. 4. The event coordinator is a reservation signatory. 4. Office Manager 1. The office manager shall be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the club office space. 2. The office manager works closely with the president, to coordinate office time with office roommates. 5. Librarian 1. The librarian shall be responsible for the permanent resources of the club, including paper and books. 2. The librarian is responsible for bringing paper and books to all club functions. 3. The librarian is responsible for keeping track of books and materials loaned out to members of the club. 4. The librarian is responsible for proposing and implementing specific library policies. 6. Curator 1. The curator shall be responsible for the permanent collection and gallery space of the club. 2. The curator is responsible for bringing the permanent collection to all club functions. 3. The curator is responsible for curating larger exhibits put on by the club. 7. Publicity Chair 1. The publicity chair shall be responsible for publicizing group events. 2. The publicity chair is responsible for maintaining the club permanent poster space. 3. The publicity chair works closely with the president, event coordinator, and treasurer to form the budget. 8. Merchandise Chair 1. The merchandise chair shall be responsible for the sellable merchandise in the club including t-shirts and convention books. 2. The merchandise chair works closely with the treasurer to design and purchase new merchandise. 9. Webmaster 1. The webmaster shall be responsible for the maintenance and regular upkeep of the club website and wiki. 2. The webmaster works closely with the historian to post meeting minutes and photos to the club website and wiki. 3. The webmaster is an OrigaMIT email list administrator. 4. The webmaster is a moderator for the OrigaMIT email list. 10. Photographer 1. The photographer is responsible for having media taken at group events and transferring them to the webmaster. 11. Historian 1. The historian shall be responsible for taking minutes and attendance and transferring them to the webmaster for archival on the club website and wiki. 2. All officers must be current MIT students. 3. Students may hold more than one office, with the exception that the president and treasurer must be distinct persons. 4. Elections: 1. Elections of officers shall occur once a semester on a date to be determined by the president of the current semester. 2. Any member who has attended at least one meeting prior to the election meeting may vote. 3. Quorum for elections shall be half of the average size of past regular group meetings of the current semester and consisting of at least 3/4 of the current officers. 4. Any member is elected if he or she wins a majority of the voting members. 5. If more than two people are running and no one wins a majority, votes are recast. 6. The term of office runs from the date of election until the date of the next election. 5. Officers can be removed from office and replaced temporarily by a unanimous decision by the remaining club officers. Article IV : Meetings 1. Meetings shall be held at least every month during fall and spring semesters. 2. Meetings shall be presided over by the president, unless he or she is absent, in which case the treasurer shall preside. 3. All decisions shall be made by a majority vote of all members present. Article V : Amendments 1. Amendments shall be presented by any member of OrigaMIT. 2. Amendments shall be passed by a two-thirds vote of the members present. 3. Quorum for ammedments shall be half of the average size of past regular group meetings of the current semester and consisting of at least 3/4 of the current officers. Article VI : ASA God Clause OrigaMIT agrees to abide by the rules and regulations of the Association of Student Activities, and its executive board. This constitution, amendments to it, and the by-laws of OrigaMIT shall be subject to review by the ASA Executive Board to insure that they are in accordance with the aforementioned rules and regulations.
