Pierre RAMPAL, pH.d.

Postdoc Associate @ MIT

I work as a postdoc associate in the MIT’s department of Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences (EAPS). I did my ph.D. at the Laboratoire de Glaciologie et Géophysique de l’Environnement in Grenoble, France.

My research revolved around the understanding of the Arctic sea ice evolution and its role in the regional to global climate system.

During my thesis, I was focused on (i) the characterization of kinematics and dynamics of Arctic sea ice, and the definition of an appropriate metric to evaluate sea ice rheological models (ii) the evolution of sea ice kinematics over the past three decades,  (iii) the seeking of a new basis for the development of an original modeling framework for sea ice mechanics using an elasto-brittle (EB) rheology.

Now, and as a part of the Estimating the Circulation and Climate of the Ocean (ECCO), I work on improving the sea ice model of the state-of-the-art MIT’s general circulation model.
