Biographical Sketch :

I  joined MIT in January 2001 as an Assistant Professor of Physics. Before that, I spent a few years as a postdoctoral fellow at the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics in Santa Barbara, CA. My graduate degree is from Yale University, and my undergraduate degree is from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.  In January 2005 I took leave from MIT to join the faculty of the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore, India. I returned to MIT in February 2007.  I am also a Distinguished Visiting Research Chair (2011-2020) at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, and have been appointed a Simons Investigator (2013 -2018) by the Simons Foundation.
