(1) Venue: we will meet in the CITY ARENA (9-255) from 5:30-7:00 on Tuesday+Thursday, Nov. 7/9
(2) Format: 15-20 minutes (including discussion) for each mini-project (with an extra 5 minutes if more than one person). Plan to talk for 5-8 minutes and allow time for discussion.
(3) These presentations are intended to be ‘works in progress’. We suggest that you have 5-10 slides organized as follows:
- Topic: title, team member(s) and a few bullets regarding your questions or hypotheses to explore
- Data: any additional data that you have found (including source, scale, unit of analysis, sample records, etc. so we can be clear about the details)
- Preliminary (exploratory) analyses: descriptive statistics, maps/overlays showing spatial patterns, indicators you have constructed, models you have tried, …
- Issues, questions, and plans: what you have learned so far, questions for the group (about methods, interpretations, literature) and your plans to wrap up the project by November 17.
- A short writeup that updates and expands on your preliminary presentation to show your results, add interpretation and conclusions, and compare with any literature you may have found (beyond Mi Diao’s thesis).
- We expect this writeup to be LESS than a dozen pages (with double spaced text) including your tables, maps and figures.
