Management
of Solid Waste
There are three solutions currently in mind to manage the solid waste
of the Galapagos in general, and Isla San Cristobal in particular:
1) Consolidate the waste into a protected landfill area in which it
will have less environmental impact.
2) (Usuable with either plan 1 or plan 3) Spread out the biodegradable
waste over a larger land area and allow it to decompose. This creates
fertile soil, which can then be used for farming.
3) Add a requirement for freighters and tour boats to take a "trash
tax" to enter the Galapagos. (i.e. in order to visit or do buisiness,
they must carry solid waste back to the mainland)
