Compact Disc Player

Success in the portable audio consumer products market requires high performance but low cost and low weight. The audio performance of a typical CD player depends on its ability to maintain a constant rotational speed of the disc with high precision. Consumer acceptance improves when the time between pressing the "play" button and hearing the CD is minimized.

• What information do you need to determine the best size for a CD drive motor?

• Define precisely (i.e., with units) how you would quantify "motor size" in this context.
