Sleeping Monsters
Concept Sketches by Elizabeth
Tentacles Concept

The tentacles are the main element in this room as they are the "monster" the group has to pass. Each tentacle has a roughly conicular shape that is then bent to curve like a tentacle. These items should be covered in fabric which is durable and can be easily cleaned off. The next layer inward should be some sort of padding - think like a pool noodle, so if someone hits a tentacle they won't get hurt. The final inner layer is some sort of material with shape memory so that if a participant bends it, once the force is released the tentacle will regain it's planned shape. The tentacles should be securely anchored into the walls, and in the wall (or in a added casing on the side of the wall) they should be actuated so that they can pivot (at minimum) up and down.
In addition to the physical features of the tentacles, the tentacles will have to sense if they have been hit. This sensing could be done by putting sensors along the tentacles' length or by putting a sensor on a flexible coupling between the tentacle and the wall. The tentacles will also have to emit a snoring noise to tell the adventurers the monster has gone to sleep. These speakers could also be placed near the base of the tentacles on the walls.
If this design is considered further, potential revisions could include adding a monster body to the tentacles. This would allow the groups to see the monsters sitting on each side of the room, and would allow for the monsters to have visible eyes to make the claim of "monster goes to sleep" easier to notice in a noisy environment.
