I think a tentacle constructed this way will work very well. Think about what kind of paint finish or "texture" you can get on something like this that wont break off and flake over time. Consider asking the vendors of molding materials what kind of paints work best for their products.

Maybe think also about how you will mount it? Maybe you can over-mold onto a threaded rod, or some kind of threaded insert that will make this thing easier to mount to when it's done.

How did the actual tentacle turn out? You mentioned your criteria and chosen material, but did it work well? I like the use of molds to help you achieve the desired shape. I can't think of many other manufacturing processes to use for a floppy tentacle. I would have liked to see a complete tentacle outside of the mold.

Shape and form of the tentacle looks good. If you want to make it flexible I wonder if forming it out of a hard rubber would get the effect you're looking for better than foam.

The techniques tested for creating the mold are effective in forming the tentacle shape, and FlexFoam-iT III seems like a good material for the tentacles with its flexibility and durability. It would be helpful to see the actual tentacles made with the mold and foam.

It seems like you have a good grasp on how you are going to manufacture it -- casting it seems like a really good idea (assuming that the material that you chose has the right flexibility/durability). I am confused about what the second picture on your page (with the purple stuff) pertains to -- what is the purpose of the purple stuff? Also, how are you going to attach the tentacle securely to the walls of the cauldron -- I think this will be an important thing to consider as it will affect the durability of the tentacle.

The mold's form resembles that of a tentacle. According to the FlexFoam-iT III website, the foam's color and density can be adjusted, so those factors can be used to create a realistic tentacle. More discussion on the desired effect and texture would be helpful.

I like the aesthetics of the tentacle (at least I guess from what I am imagining) and the shape of the cast as well as what the diagram shows seems very realistic.
