Have you done any testing with the motion sensors? These have a wide field of view and will need to be masked in order to work as intended. The wiring diagram is missing some components. The crank should be using a digital input for the reed switch.

Very well thought of design of the use the motion sensors. As mentioned, the prototyping motion sensors may not give a very robust result. I think you are already prepared for that. I think you can still make it robust enough using software, thats something that you can look into. Addition of multiple if-statements and constant testing of the design should do the trick

I think you did a good job with explaining the electronics. I think going with motion sensors instead of other options like pressure sensors was a good way to go because it minimizes the amount of sensors you need, simplifying the electronics. Your pseudo code did a good job of explaining implementation.
