Quality and thoroughness of human-use analysis and improvement suggestions

Reviewer 1:

I like your introduction, it helps the reader familiarize themselves with the topic at hand (punny).

I like that you lay out the procedure and the key user needs but would like to see where these needs came from i.e. from the product specs or from user testing etc. Another little thing, I think that the basic functions title could be replaced with basic features as this is more what is being described. I really like how you got a lot of user feedback and quotes and statistics. I think that this good way to discover underlying problems that you made did not see yourself. One thing I think could be improved is that you begin by discussing multiple types of air dryers and give a few examples but then talk about and test a completely different one. I think maybe sticking to one type would have made things more focused and clear. I like the benefits and that you use a lot of concert data and charts to show lots of info. And that you back up your findings with relative articles. I also would have liked to see maybe another solution of how you could change the air dryer themselves.

I feel like I actually learned something from your analysis. Your background information was thorough and you clearly stated the basic functions and key user needs. I really liked the youtube videos. It helped understand what you meant with the different positions and movements of the hand. I like how you separated the user experience into 2 sections: cleanliness and time to dry. I think it would've been interesting to see a few other variables like position of dryers with relation to sinks. It would also be interesting to see how younger kids used an air dryer and if they would have the immediate intuition of knowing that it's motion activated. I am kind of confused to why you suggested paper towel technique instructions instead of having a suggestion for changes with the air dryer? Overall, you analysis was detailed and descriptive and I got to learn that an air dryer can cost up to $1300.

Reviewer 3:

Clearly a very thought out and through analysis of hand dryers, how theyre used and how that impacts the world around us.

Really enjoyed the experiment looking at the different ways to dry hands(holding hands stationary, flipping them, etc.) but would have liked to see more observation and report on how most people instinctively try to dry their hands. When you did observe for an hour you said only 1 person tried to use the hand dryer but maybe you could have asked a few more people to try it. Your survey focused more on paper towels v. hand dryers or different types of hand dryers but I would like to know how people naturally try and use a hand dryer.

The benefits/downfalls could have been more focused on elements related to the user experience but does an excellent job of contextualizing the hand dryer technology and its impacts.

Adding a hand sanitizer next to a hand dryer sort of mitigates the negative effect of the unsanitary nature of hand dryers but maybe there is a way to change the design of hand dryers to make them more sanitary.

Reviewer 4:

Really thorough analysis, including a lot of background information and user research. I was particularly impressed by the number of hand drying methods you personally tried (and the videos were really helpful). Two suggestions:

- As I mentioned below, there was a lot of information, particularly on the user research side. Which was really great for getting a thorough picture of the product space! I would have found a summarized list of pros and cons helpful, though, in organizing the big takeaways from all that data.

- I thought the bit where you tried different hand drying motions interesting, and you mentioned that it was less than the studied amount. I would have been interested in seeing that followed up on in the redesign -- maybe a diagram suggesting the method you found to be most effective?

Clarity and presentation of human-use experience analysis

Reviewer 1:

I like the bright color when you first open the page, it is different and stands out, I just wish there was like a click to enter thing under the title as opposed to having to click the menu tab first. I like the color background and think the it frames the page well. The text is laid out in a clear way and sections help break up important topics. I like that the menu bar always stays at the top of the the page even when you scroll down. I really like how you clearly show the different techniques of drying and you link to a video to show in greater detail. I think that the graphs you had could have been a little bigger, this would have made them easier to see. In all I think that analysis was well laid out and thought out and clearly walked me through the problems and possible solutions.

Reviewer 2:

I liked the categories that you separated your analysis into. However, I do think that it was kind of awkward to navigate the page with the menu bar on the left side of the screen. It's also not that large so you have to scan the entire screen to find it, the first couple of times. The youtube video clips helped a lot and I think it was a cool feature to add to your website. The headings made the text easy to follow. The graphs were kind of small and I couldn't really see the data, that would've been cool to read. Maybe if you could click on them and they would expand to a larger image?

Reviewer 3:

Really clean and well laid out website. You clearly walk the reader through the history and purpose of hand dryers, different designs and all your through studies on users and the experience.

There may have been a little too much text throughout, in some cases you could have made your point more succinctly drawing more attention to your images and diagrams.

Reviewer 4:

Presentation was clear and logical. There was a lot of material, though, and I got a little lost at times. I think playing with text size / boldness to emphasis certain takeaway points would be helpful. I also had a little trouble reading some of the more detailed pictures (e.g. the pie charts under "Other Users"). But on the whole, the website was clean and easy to navigate, and I liked the drop down menu on the side.
